Climate Change Education Series 2010
Live Green Toronto

We are happy to announce that The Friends of Christie Pits Park has just received a Live Green Toronto grant to run a free education series on climate change.

We are already beginning to see changes in our climate and experts agree that more changes are coming. As a community we feel strongly that we need to educate ourselves so that we can adapt to these changes, as well as change our behaviour and choices to mitigate further damage to the environment. Climate change is a broad topic, therefore our series will touch on many subjects, including food, power, water, trees and biodiversity.

Guest speakers are being booked at the moment to host the following discussions:

  • Local Food and Reducing our Carbon Footprint
    • Urban Agriculture, Community Gardens and Backyard Plots
    • Celebrating Ontario Farmers
  • Urban Trees and Climate Mitigation
    • Food Producing and Others
    • Tree Tour of the Park
  • Protecting Biodiversity: Friendly Urban Areas for Birds and other Pollinators
  • Energy and Water Efficiency and Conservation

The series will be run during our Friday Pizza Nights in the park this spring and autumn. Bring your blankets and join us. These will be friendly and casual evenings with guest speakers giving their presentations, followed by discussion and question and answer periods. Participation is free and all are welcome. There will be playground supervisors so that the children can play on the playground while their parents participate.

The materials presented will be tailored to younger children and offered as a field trip for community school groups. All the material will also be housed, as well as a new website housing all the material our guest speakers present.

If you or your organisation would like to be a part of this series please feel free to contact us.
